It’s competition time!
To mark the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death in 2016, we’re on a global quest to discover a new generation of creative talent!
In this year’s competition, we’re inviting non-native students of English from across the world to show off their writing and / or artistic skills in one of the following themed challenges:
WRITERS
12 or under
Puck (the mischievous fairy from A Midsummer Night’s Dream) arrives at your school. Write about what happens next. Does he start a food fight in the canteen? Cast a spell on your teacher? Let your imagination run wild!
Entries should be between 500 – 1000 words
Ages 13 to 18
Choose one of the plays from this list and re-write a scene, event or the plot in the style of a modern-day magazine or news article. Hamlet, Macbeth, The Merchant of Venice, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, Romeo and Juliet.
Entries should be between 500 – 1000 words
19 and above
Write a speech or sonnet about something or someone you love. The subject does not have to be Shakespeare-related and you can write it in modern English or incorporate
Shakespearean language.
Entries should be no more than 500 words
ARTISTS
Design a poster advertising one of the following Shakespeare plays: Hamlet, Macbeth, The Merchant of Venice, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Much Ado About Nothing, Othello, Romeo and Juliet.
